Maternal and Child Health Training

Background

The Maternal and Child Health (MCH) Training, initiated in 2015, aims to develop MCH workers in Ethnic Health Organization (EHO) areas. The program consists of two main parts:

four months of theoretical instruction and
a six-month clinical internship.

The theory segment covers maternal health for two months and child
health for another two, followed by exams. Trainees then complete
practical training at MTC, where they must demonstrate competence
through checklists and a log book. The Child portion includes an 11-
day Integrated Management of Childhood Illness (IMCI) course, a WHO and UNICEF initiative to reduce under-five mortality. Upon completion, participants receive both MCH and IMCI certificates.

Objectives

To improve the clinical skills of healthcare providers
in various areas that influence maternal and child
health such as prenatal care, childbirth, nutrition,
family planning, and disease prevention, enabling
them to provide comprehensive and evidence-
based care.

Raise Awareness and Empower communities
Immunization and Disease Prevention
Health System Strengthening:
To know the maternal and child health knowledge
specifically for EHO areas and IMCI to reduce
maternal mortality and under 5 mortality in EHO
areas
