Medical Care Program
The Medical Care Program (MCP) aims to provide integrated and essential healthcare services to vulnerable and hard-to-reach populations in Eastern Myanmar, particularly in Karen State and along the Thai–Myanmar border. Through a network of clinics and mobile outreach teams, MCP ensures access to quality primary healthcare, disease prevention, and health education for communities affected by conflict, displacement, and limited access to medical services.
Primary Healthcare Services
MCP operates fixed and mobile clinics providing outpatient consultations, basic treatment, maternal and child health services, and referrals for specialized care. Services include malaria and tuberculosis management, nutrition support, reproductive health, and emergency response

Key Activities
Nutrition and Child Health
The program conducts Mid-Upper Arm Circumference (MUAC) screening for children to monitor and prevent malnutrition. Infant and Young Child Feeding (IYCF) counselling sessions and community cooking demonstrations promote proper feeding practices and nutrition awareness among caregivers and families.
Malaria Prevention and Control
MCP implements malaria screening, diagnosis, and treatment through clinic-based and mobile outreach teams. Trained volunteers support community-level malaria surveillance, ensuring early detection and timely treatment. Preventive activities include mosquito net distribution and health education.
Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH)
To improve living conditions and prevent waterborne diseases, MCP installs clean water systems, sanitary latrines, and water purification units at clinic and community sites. Hygiene promotion activities are also conducted in schools and internally displaced person (IDP) camps.
Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS)
MCP integrates Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS) into primary care services, offering basic counselling, psychological first aid, and awareness sessions on stress management and self-care. The program also provides training for healthcare workers to handle mental health cases in conflict-affected areas.
Capacity Building
Continuous training and mentorship programs strengthen the capacity of Integrated Community Health Volunteers (iCHVs) and field health workers. MCP ensures that local staff are equipped with essential medical, communication, and management skills to sustain community health initiatives.
Health Education and Community Outreach
Regular health education sessions are conducted to raise awareness on key topics such as malaria, TB, dengue, nutrition, sexual and reproductive health, and gender-based violence. Through school programs and peer education activities, MCP promotes behavior change and empowers communities to take charge of their health.
